Media Developing / Media Training / Writing and Editing
I caught the journalism bug in the 1990s, inspired by American public radio, and earned a master’s degree in journalism from UC Berkeley. In 1999, I set out for Germany to work with Deutsche Welle while also filing stories for NPR and Marketplace Radio in the U.S.

In 2008, I began splitting my time between journalism and media development, conducting my first training workshop in Malaysia. Inspired by collaborations with journalists from the Global South, I expanded my work in media development—implementing and managing projects in Cambodia and Myanmar.

Today, I’ve worked on projects in more than 20 countries across Asia, Africa, and Eastern Europe, from Montenegro to the Philippines. I continue to find inspiration in the people and organizations I work with, many of whom face enormous challenges in providing reliable, accurate information in their countries. I’m also driven by my work with young people navigating today’s information landscape, with communities striving to amplify their voices and public engagement, and with exploring ways to present information that unites rather than divides.
